After leaving St Hilda's School Charlotte took a typing course and then a job in a London advertising agency as a typist. Very soon after, she was asked to bring some photographs of models into a meeting of the ad agency account executives and the client (in this case Cadbury's Chocolate). The men took one look at the young typist and said "Why look any further? Our 'face' is right here in front of us" (or something similar). So, despite the fact she had no training as a model she was signed on the spot and never went back to the typing pool. During the following three months she was signed under false pretences for the role of a water-skier in "The Knack"
